Mint

Mint is Mentha — the Latin name borrowed from the Greek myth of Menthe, a nymph turned into a plant by Persephone's jealousy. The Romans carried mint in their pockets; the Egyptians buried it in tombs. Neither civilisation was wrong about its character. The scent opens cool, sharp and immediate, a menthol brightness that seems to lift the temperature of the air by half a degree. Behind it sits something greener, almost lawn-like, before the whole thing settles into clean and faintly sweet.

The fresh-herbal family has two registers: morning and summer. Mint belongs to both.
