Muladhara, the root chakra, sits at the base of the spine in the yogic map of the body. The name joins two Sanskrit words: mula, root, and adhara, support.

In the tradition it governs the feeling of standing on solid ground — safety, belonging, the body itself, the place you call home. Its colour is deep red. Its element is earth.

When yoga teachers speak of working with the root, they usually mean the seasons when the floor seems to move: a house move, a new job, a long stretch of worry. The practices offered are unhurried ones — walking, gardening, eating slowly, sitting with both feet flat on the floor. Nothing dramatic. The root responds to repetition, not intensity.

Red and black stones are Muladhara's traditional companions: red jasper, black tourmaline, hematite, smoky quartz, black agate. Worn at the wrist or kept on a desk, they work the way a knot in a handkerchief works — a quiet, physical reminder to come back to the body.

Earthy scents belong here too. Patchouli, vetiver, cedarwood — anything that smells of forest floor rather than open sky.

Below you'll find what our catalogue holds for the root: stones the tradition links with it, incense and oils in its register, and objects for a steadier daily rhythm.
