🌿 Kun kärki hehkuu, nousee pehmeä savunhuntu. Ensin tulee raikas rosmariini—vihreä, pirteä, lempeästi kamferinen—sitten se siirtyy palo santon pehmeään, pihkaiseen lämpöön. Huoneeseen laskeutuu hiljainen, metsäinen hiljaisuus.

Tuoksu liikkuu kerroksittain: kirkkaat yrttiset ylänuotit mäntyisen raikkaalla nosteella; sydän on kermaisen pihkainen puu, johon on kosketettu hienovaraisesti sitruksella; ja kuiva, balsaminen jälkituoksu, joka viipyy pehmeästi. Tunnelma on selkeä, maanläheinen ja rauhallinen.

Palo santo—espanjaksi ”pyhä puu”—kuuluu Etelä-Amerikasta kotoisin olevaan Bursera-heimoon.
