Origem e colheita
A Ucrânia situa-se numa zona continental temperada, bem adaptada ao cultivo de flores europeias clássicas — centáurea, camomila, calêndula e rosa — que há séculos abastecem ervanários, tintureiros e cozinheiros domésticos de todo o continente. A secagem da flor inteira é o método tradicional: colhidas no auge da floração e depois secas rapidamente para preservar a estrutura e o aroma antes de as pétalas ficarem pisadas ou acastanhadas. O resultado é um material que ainda tem o aspeto e o aroma da flor de onde veio.
Como são utilizadas
As flores inteiras secas situam-se na interseção entre a cozinha, o espaço de trabalhos manuais e o espaço ritual. Na tradição ervanária europeia, muitas variedades são há muito utilizadas em tisanas: basta deixar um punhado de pétalas em água quente, permitindo que se abram lentamente. Em trabalhos artesanais, podem ser prensadas para fazer papel e impressões botânicas, flutuar em cera de velas ou ser espalhadas em sabonetes artesanais para acrescentar cor e textura. Num banho ritual, adicionar um pequeno punhado à água é uma prática com raízes nas tradições populares otomana, persa e da Europa Central. Como decoração, enchem frascos de vidro, adornam tabuleiros de altar ou servem como confetes naturais.
Quantidade e conservação
