De geur en de herkomst
Palo Santo betekent in het Spaans ‘heilig hout’ en het hout wordt al lange tijd gebrand vanwege zijn zoete, harsachtige aroma. Kaneel is een specerij van boomschors, met een warme, kruidige geur die vertrouwd is van bakwaren en winterse dranken. Samen vormen ze een combinatie die zowel aards als uitnodigend aanvoelt.
De masala-traditie
Dit zijn masalastokjes, gemaakt volgens de Indiase traditie waarbij een geurige pasta van aromatische materialen rond een bamboekern wordt gerold. Deze variant komt van HEM, een merk dat bekendstaat om zijn zeshoekige wierookdoosjes. De stokjes worden in India gemaakt en op de zwarte doos staat de geurnaam in gouden letters.
Hoe je ze brandt
Steek de punt aan, laat het vlammetje een paar seconden branden en blaas het daarna uit, zodat het stokje blijft gloeien en een gelijkmatige rookdraad verspreidt. Plaats het uiteinde zonder coating in een hittebestendige houder met daaronder een opvangbakje voor de as. Brand wierook in een geventileerde ruimte en laat het nooit onbeheerd achter. Stokjes zoals deze branden doorgaans ongeveer dertig tot zestig minuten, al verschilt dit per product. Controleer daarom de verpakking voor de exacte informatie.
