Wat rudraksha zijn
Rudraksha zijn de zaden van Elaeocarpus ganitrus, een boom die van nature groeit aan de uitlopers van de Himalaya en in delen van Zuidoost-Azië. De naam komt uit het Sanskriet: rudra (Shiva) en aksha (oog). De zaden worden al eeuwenlang aaneengeregen en gedragen binnen hindoeïstische en boeddhistische tradities, voor meditatie, gebed en dagelijkse beoefening. Elk zaad heeft van nature groeven. Het aantal groeven wordt mukhi (gezichten) genoemd; aan verschillende aantallen worden in traditioneel gebruik verschillende betekenissen toegekend.

De kralen sluiten goed aan en voelen glad aan; het hout voelt warm op de huid. Dankzij het elastiek schuif je de armband gemakkelijk om je pols. De zilveren Boeddha is klein en ligt plat: meer een merkteken dan een gewicht. Donkere rudraksha zoals deze zijn vaak oudere zaden of zijn bewust verouderd; de kleur wordt dieper door het dragen en door contact met de natuurlijke oliën van de huid.
