Satya Kokoswierook verspreidt de romige warmte van kokos, niet de scherpe zoetheid van zonnebrandcrème, maar iets dat meer doet denken aan het bleke vruchtvlees van de noot zelf, met een vleugje vanille dat de scherpe randjes verzacht. Kokos: zacht, romig en zoet. Met de hand gerold in India: een gecoate masala op een bamboestokje.

Gemaakt door Satya, een van de bekendste wierookmakers van India. De stokjes worden op traditionele wijze volgens de masala-methode gerold: een mengsel van geurstoffen, hars in poedervorm (vanilline, coumarine, yara yara) en bindmiddelen wordt rond een bamboekern geperst. Het resultaat is een stokje dat langzaam brandt en de geur gelijkmatig verspreidt, in plaats van een korte geuruitbarsting gevolgd door rook.
Zo brand je de wierook
Steek het uiteinde met de coating aan, laat het een paar seconden vlam vatten en blaas het dan uit, zodat het uiteinde rood gloeit. Zet het kale uiteinde rechtop in een wierookhouder of asvanger. Het stokje smeult langzaam en verspreidt tijdens het branden zijn geur. Brand de wierook altijd in een goed geventileerde ruimte en laat hem nooit onbeheerd achter.
De Satya-traditie
Satya werd in de jaren 90 internationaal bekend met Nag Champa, de honingzoete, harsachtige wierook die opdook in yogastudio's en platenwinkels in Europa en Noord-Amerika. De kokoswierook wordt op dezelfde manier gerold, maar heeft een lichtere geur dan de zwaardere bloemig-harsachtige variant, een geur waar je weinig voor hoeft te doen en die je gewoon wat warmte biedt.
