De geur
- Groen en aardend, met verse kruiden als hoofdtoon in plaats van bloemen of specerijen. De geur komt natuurlijk over, niet geparfumeerd.
- De eerste minuten heeft de geur een iets scherpere, kamferachtige toon die zachter wordt naarmate het stokje opbrandt, tot er een rustigere, mosachtige geur overblijft.
- Past in een ruimte die al rustig aanvoelt en dat graag zo wil houden, in plaats van een ruimte die een complete metamorfose nodig heeft.
- De geur blijft na het opbranden van het stokje subtiel hangen, zonder in stoffen te trekken.
De bereiding
Dit zijn traditionele wierookstokjes in masalastijl uit India. De laag kruidenpasta is dikker dan bij Japanse stokjes, wat zorgt voor een vollere, aardser brandende geur. De Vedic-lijn is gericht op botanische melanges in plaats van bloemengeuren met één enkele toon, en dit stokje past helemaal bij die stijl.
Zo brand je het stokje
Steek het uiteinde met de kruidenpasta aan, laat het een paar seconden vlammen en blaas het dan uit, zodat het uiteinde blijft gloeien en begint te roken. Zet het kale uiteinde in een wierookhouder of leg het in een asvanger, en zet een raam op een kier. Laat het nooit onbeheerd achter en houd het uit de buurt van tocht en brandbare materialen.
De Vedische traditie
De naam 'Vedic' verwijst naar de oude Indiase geschriften en de rituele tradities die daaruit voortkwamen. Wierook speelde daarin een rol bij de dagelijkse devotie, meditatie en het markeren van heilige momenten. Het branden van kruiden en harsen was zowel een offer als een manier om de geest voor te bereiden op verstilling. Deze moderne lijn put uit die traditie en combineert kruiden zoals dat bij tempelwierook gebruikelijk kan zijn geweest, al past ze net zo goed op een bureau of nachtkastje als in een gebedsruimte.
