- De geur opent met een warme, harsachtige zoetheid en wordt tijdens het branden dieper, houtachtiger en aardser.
- De geur doet denken aan een bosgrond en een tempelbinnenplaats: aards zonder zwaar te zijn, en zacht genoeg om tijdens het werken of lezen te branden.
- De geur draait niet om één overheersende geurnoot, maar voelt gelaagd en harmonieus aan, alsof hij bedoeld is om de ruimte in balans te brengen in plaats van de aandacht te trekken.
- De geur blijft na het opbranden van het stokje nog ongeveer een uur zachtjes hangen, zonder zich aan stoffen of haar vast te klampen.
Gemaakt volgens de Indiase masala-traditie
Dit zijn wierookstokjes in masala-stijl: de geur komt van gemalen harsen, houtpoeders en natuurlijke oliën die rond een bamboekern worden gerold, in plaats van een laagje parfum waarin het stokje wordt gedoopt. Deze methode is langzamer en de geur wordt tijdens het branden vaak voller en complexer. Aromatika is een Indiase maker die bekendstaat om deze traditionele manier van met de hand rollen, waarbij elk stokje in laagjes wordt opgebouwd in plaats van machinaal in parfum te worden gedoopt.
Zo brand je de stokjes
Steek het onbehandelde uiteinde aan, laat het een paar seconden vlam vatten en blaas de vlam dan uit, zodat het uiteinde zachtjes blijft gloeien. Zet het stokje rechtop in een hittebestendige houder of wierookvanger en laat het branden in een ruimte met een beetje luchtcirculatie. Een open raam of een deur op een kier voorkomt dat de geur te sterk wordt. Elk stokje brandt doorgaans ongeveer vijfenveertig minuten, al hangt dat af van de luchtstroom. Laat het nooit onbeheerd achter en houd het uit de buurt van brandbare spullen.
De Levensboom als symbool
De Levensboom komt in culturen over de hele wereld voor: in Keltisch knoopwerk, in de kabbalistische traditie en in beelden uit het hindoeïsme en boeddhisme. Hij staat symbool voor verbondenheid, groei en het cyclische karakter van vernieuwing. In het Vedische denken vertegenwoordigt de boom de kosmos zelf: met wortels in de aarde en takken die naar het eeuwige reiken. Hij herinnert ons eraan dat groeien en gegrond zijn geen tegenpolen zijn, maar deel uitmaken van hetzelfde proces. Deze geur is gemaakt om die kwaliteit te weerspiegelen: gegrond, evenwichtig en ingetogen verfrissend.
Wat je krijgt
Een turquoise kartonnen verpakking met een opdruk van een boom, met daarin een bundel lange, met de hand gerolde masalastokjes. Het precieze aantal is niet vermeld, maar de verpakking bevat genoeg voor één ceremonie of een week aan avonden, geen navulverpakking in bulkformaat.
