Dendritic Limestone Picture Stone Disc 100mm
Ships from the UKA natural ink-wash scene seems to sit just beneath the surface of this dendritic limestone picture stone disc. Dark, branch-like mineral marks drift across cream, ochre and smoky grey stone, with a strong diagonal line near the base that reads like a mountain ridge or riverbank. It is a contemplative display piece for a shelf, desk or quiet corner, made for slow looking rather than quick decoration.

What can I say about these Amethyst Points that I have not said before. They are great for the use I have them for. If only a few other Companies trained their Staff so well life would be so much simpler.

As rough points go these are the best I have ever come across in over 60 years ( Yes I mean 60 years). I use a lot of them. Once again 100 / 100 as 5* are just not enough.

About this product
The natural artwork in the stone
- The round form frames the pattern like a small landscape painting, giving the eye a clear place to rest.
- Fine dark markings spread like winter trees, river deltas or distant scrub on pale stone.
- Warm rust and brown tones gather along the lower edge, adding depth and shadow to the scene.
- A darker band across the top creates the feeling of horizon, mist or cloud.
- Turn it slightly in the light and different lines come forward, inviting the quiet practice of reading an image in nature.
Dendrites, limestone and deep time
This Guohua picture stone is dendritic limestone from ancient deposits in Guangxi Province, China. Its markings were formed naturally by manganese dendrites, while iron oxide within the fine-grained limestone gives the stone its warm, earthy colour. The image is not carved, painted or printed. It appears because mineral movement met the stone at just the right places, then was revealed when the disc was cut and finished.
How to display it
Place it where the surface can be seen at eye level: on a bookcase, mantel, desk or low table. A plain background lets the natural picture read more clearly, especially against wood, linen, ceramic or dark metal.
Keep it dry and handle it with clean hands. Limestone is softer than quartz, so avoid abrasive cloths, sharp edges and prolonged damp. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth.
Guohua and the art of looking
Guohua refers to the tradition of Chinese painting, especially the quiet force of ink landscapes, spare branches and suggested mountains. Stones with naturally pictorial markings sit comfortably within the wider East Asian appreciation of viewing stones, where a small object can suggest a much larger world. In Chinese scholar’s rock traditions, stones were valued not for literal detail but for the way they invited imagination, reflection and stillness. This disc follows that spirit gently: the scene is not fixed, so each viewer may see a different landscape in the same stone.
