Why it is pink
Most quartz colours come from traces of metal in the crystal. Rose quartz is different: its soft pink comes from countless tiny mineral fibres, similar to dumortierite, which also give it its milky look. That is why clear crystals of it are so rare.
What tradition says
In crystal practice it is the stone of the heart chakra, linked with love, friendship and self-kindness. That is a meaning people have given it, and part of its charm: a gift of rose quartz says what can be hard to say aloud.
How people use it
Many keep a tumbled stone in a pocket or on the bedside table, or give one to mark a friendship, a new home or a hard time. Think of it as a small object that holds a thought for you.
Care
Keep it out of strong direct sun for long spells, as the pink can fade. Rinse in plain water and dry with a soft cloth.
