Dalmatian stone is a pale igneous rock, formed from cooling volcanic magma, with its distinctive black spots created by tourmaline crystals scattered through the feldspar base. The combination gives it a playful, almost animate quality, and the pattern is never uniform across a batch.

Each bag holds twenty-four stones, and within that set you'll find a good spread of sizes and spot densities. Some stones show tight freckling, others a more open scatter; some are heavier on the black, others almost entirely cream. This natural variation is part of the appeal rather than a flaw.

These stones come from Mexico, a country rich in volcanic geology. The tumbling process takes several days, moving raw rock fragments through progressively finer grits until the surface becomes glassy and the shape softens into something pleasant to hold.

People keep them for different reasons. Some use them in jewellery-making, drilling and wrapping them as pendants or earring drops. Others set a few on a windowsill or a desk as small tactile objects to pick up and turn over during a pause. They work well in mosaics, placed in plant pots as decorative mulch, or simply collected. In crystal tradition, dalmatian stone has long been associated with playfulness and loyalty, echoing the animal it's named for.

Wipe them with a dry or very lightly dampened cloth. Avoid soaking them or leaving them in prolonged moisture, and keep them out of strong, direct sunlight for long stretches, as this can dull the polish over time.
