Silverleaf jasper is a variety of opaque quartz formed from fine sediment that compacted and silicified over millions of years. The silvery streaks come from mineral inclusions, often hematite or magnetite, deposited during formation. This particular jasper is mined in South Africa, where volcanic and sedimentary conditions created the dense, banded character the stone is known for.
