Wood base with enamel surface. The palette is warm yellow ground with a folk motif worked across the face. Weight is 2,241 grams. Handmade in India using natural materials.
Folk enamelwork in India
Enamel painting on wood has roots in provincial temple craft and domestic decoration across northern India: simple geometry, stylised plants, strong colour blocked in where detail would be lost at a distance. The technique travelled with pilgrim routes and settled wherever craftspeople found patronage. Yellow holds symbolic weight in many traditions: turmeric, marigold, dawn, the solar disc. Here it sits as the dominant note, with the floral element bringing the design into domestic rather than devotional register.
