Made by Satya, one of the best-known incense makers in India. The sticks are rolled in the traditional masala style: a blend of fragrance, powdered resins (vanillin, coumarine, yara yara) and binding agents pressed around a bamboo core. The result is a stick that burns slowly and releases scent evenly, rather than a quick burst followed by smoke.

Light the coated tip, let it flame for a few seconds, then blow it out so the end glows red. Stand the plain end upright in an incense holder or ash catcher, the stick will smoulder slowly, releasing scent as it burns. Always burn in a ventilated room and never leave it unattended.

Satya became internationally known in the 1990s for Nag Champa, the honey-sweet, resinous incense that appeared in yoga studios and record shops across Europe and North America. The Coconut follows the same rolled method, but swaps the heavier floral-resin character for something lighter and more universally easy to live with, a scent that doesn't ask much of you, just offers a little warmth.
