Satya incense is made in Bangalore using the traditional masala method: powdered resins, woods and fragrance are mixed with a binding agent, then hand-rolled onto thin bamboo sticks and left to dry. The result is a thicker, slower-burning stick with a deeper scent throw than dipped or charcoal-core incense. Each stick is hand-rolled, so they vary slightly in thickness and the way they burn.

Light the coated tip, let the flame catch for a few seconds, then blow it out so the end glows. Stand the plain end in a holder or rest it in an ash catcher, and keep a window slightly open, masala incense produces more smoke than minimal Japanese styles.
