Selenite is a form of gypsum, known for its satin-like sheen and moonlit whiteness. Its name is linked to Selene, the Greek moon goddess, which suits the soft glow visible across this piece.

This piece is made from selenite from Morocco. The surface appears polished and softly rounded, with natural variation in tone, translucency and internal banding from one crystal to another.

Keep selenite completely dry. Do not wash it, soak it, or place it in a bathroom, as water and humidity can dull the surface and gradually damage the mineral.

It is also very soft, around Mohs 2, so a fingernail can scratch it. Dust it gently with a dry soft cloth or brush, and store it away from harder stones or sharp objects.
