The Long Bath: Bath Gift Set

1. Run the bath hot and dissolve two handfuls of the salt under the tap as it fills.
2. Stand the candle on a saucer on a flat, dry edge, away from towels, light it and switch the ceiling light off. Never leave it unattended.
3. Soap first, then draw the jute strap across your back in slow strokes. Afterwards, leave the soap to dry on the marble so it lasts, and hang the strap somewhere airy.

• A black marble soap dish, 12 x 9 cm and 2 cm deep, with drainage holes in the hollow. It is heavy and cool, and every stone is veined a little differently.
• A 100 g slice of Greenman soap, handmade in England with lavender and geranium essential oils and dried lavender flowers, wrapped in waxed paper.
• 500 g of Himalayan bath salt with lavender essential oil, jojoba oil and lavender flowers, in a kraft pouch.
• A jute and cotton back scrubber, 68 cm long, with a wooden handle on a cord at each end.
• One ivory pillar candle, 6 cm across and 12 cm tall, with about 38 hours of burning.

The pieces arrive together in one parcel. They are not gift-wrapped. Keep the salt pouch closed and dry between baths.

Bath night was once a fixed evening in the week: when the 1951 census counted, more than a third of households in England and Wales had no fixed bath, and the tin bath came out in front of the fire.
