Rain and a Long Book: Gift Set for Book Lovers

1. Set the burner on a steady sill or shelf in your reading nook, away from draughts. Light one cone at the tip, blow out the flame once it glows, and stand it hollow side down on the highest peak: the cone is hollow, so the cooling smoke sinks and runs down the slopes.
2. Touch the lamp on, read until the cone is spent, and write down one line you want to keep.
3. Let the burner cool before you touch it, then tip out the ash. One cone at a time, and never leave a lit cone in an empty room.

Lokta paper is made in Nepal from the inner bark of two Daphne shrubs, Daphne bholua and Daphne papyracea. The bark is cut from the stems and the shrub grows back, so the plant is harvested, not felled.
