Round Enamelled Box - Cosmic Babe

• The lid is where the character lives. Deep black enamel makes the gold stars, the cream lettering and the red-orange hair look as if they glow against a night sky.
• The woman's closed eyes and calm profile give the design a quiet, dreamlike mood, even though the colours are bold.
• Below it, the warm, honey-toned wood shows a visible grain with softly varied streaks, so the natural side of the box balances the graphic top.
• The body is built in stacked layers, with a slim band beneath the lid, which gives it a neat, rounded, pebble-like profile.
• It sits comfortably on a bedside table, a desk or a bookshelf, and works as a small decorative piece even when closed.

The contrast is the whole idea here: a smooth, glossy-looking enamelled lid set on a plain wooden base. Wood grain differs from one piece to the next, so the tone and streaking of your box may vary a little from the one in the photo. That is part of what natural wood does, and it keeps each box slightly its own.

Use it for the small things you like to keep close and within reach: a few rings, hair accessories, tea bags, trinkets or keepsakes. Or leave it empty and let the lid do the talking. A dry, soft cloth is all it needs to stay tidy. Keep it away from standing water and damp surfaces, as wood and enamel both prefer a dry home.

Celestial imagery has a long place in decorative art, from star charts and zodiac illustrations to the hand-painted moons and suns found on boxes, textiles and ceramics across many cultures. This box takes that tradition in a contemporary, lighthearted direction, with a graphic, retro-tinged illustration and a confident, slightly cheeky title. It is a modern interpretation rather than a traditional or antique piece.

It suits a friend who loves astrology, stargazing or simply bold, characterful objects, and it works well for a birthday or a housewarming. The message on the lid does a lot of the gifting for you, and the box is useful long after the wrapping is gone.
