These are hand-rolled coated incense sticks on a bamboo stick, made in India as part of the Satya Incense Sticks range. The bamboo core gives each stick its familiar slender shape, while the coated incense layer carries the citronella fragrance as it smoulders.

Light the coated end, let the flame catch briefly, then blow it out so the tip glows. Place the plain end into a heat-resistant incense holder or ash catcher, with space around it for falling ash.

Burn in a ventilated room, keep away from draughts, fabrics and pets, and never leave incense unattended. Let the ash cool fully before clearing it away.
