These sticks are made in India, the heartland of masala incense, a tradition in which fragrance materials are blended into a paste and rolled onto a bamboo core before drying. The Black range sits at the more dramatic, richly scented end of their catalogue. Like most commercially produced Indian incense, the fragrance includes perfume compounds alongside natural base materials, the result is a consistent, full-bodied scent rather than the subtler, more variable character of a pure resin or wood-powder stick.

Light the coated tip and let it catch for a few seconds, then blow out the flame gently so the tip glows orange. Rest the plain bamboo end in a heat-resistant incense holder or ash catcher and leave it to burn. Each stick burns for approximately 30 minutes. Never leave burning incense unattended, and always use a proper holder to catch the ash.
