Burning
Light the coated tip, let it flame for a few seconds, then blow it out so it glows. Stand the plain end in a heat-resistant holder or ash catcher, and let it burn somewhere with a little air movement. Never leave it unattended, and keep the ash from settling onto anything that marks easily.
