The material is naseberry wood, also known botanically as Manilkara zapota. Its colour gives the piece its mahogany character: warm, earthy and quietly polished, with grain that makes each dish a little different.

Made in Indonesia, the dish has a simple contemporary form rather than decorative carving. The rounded soap wells, drainage holes and slots are all there for use, keeping the design clean while giving the wood room to breathe between washes.

Let the dish drain freely and avoid leaving it sitting in pooled water. Wipe it dry from time to time, especially underneath, and allow it to air between uses. If the wood begins to look dry, refresh it with a suitable wood oil applied sparingly.
