The moulds are made from aluminium with an unpainted finish. They are produced by artisans in Bali, Indonesia, with a clean pyramid shape designed for compacting incense powder into a cohesive form.

Fill the mould with your chosen incense powder, compact it firmly, then lift the mould away with care. Place the shaped powder in a heat-proof censer, ideally over sand or ash.

Loose incense powder does not self-light in the way a ready-made stick does. Use a lit charcoal disc until it is glowing and ashed over, then place or sprinkle the powder on top, or use an electric incense heater if that is your preferred method. Burn in a ventilated room and never leave hot charcoal unattended.

Loose incense has a long place in domestic and ceremonial fragrance traditions, from resins warmed over charcoal to ground woods and botanicals shaped for slower burning.
