About this product

Smoke that falls like water
  • The cone is designed for the backflow effect, where smoke sinks through the burner instead of drifting straight upwards.
  • A hollow channel in the base lets the cooled smoke fall, creating the familiar cascade down a dedicated backflow incense burner.
  • It feels more like something to watch than background fragrance, suited to a low-lit shelf, altar space or quiet corner.
  • Standard solid incense cones will not create the same waterfall effect, so these are made for backflow use.
Champa in the room

Champa is known for its sweet, floral character, with a soft temple-incense warmth beneath it. It gives these backflow incense cones a familiar, atmospheric scent without needing a complex note list.

The cones are pyramid-shaped masala backflow cones, made from incense and created for scent and smoke movement together. Use them when you want a short ritual that asks you to pause and watch.

How to use them well

Place one cone on a dedicated backflow burner, with the hole aligned over the burner's smoke channel. Light the tip, allow it to catch, then gently blow out the flame so the cone smoulders.

Backflow incense is sensitive to air movement, so keep it away from draughts, open windows and fans. Use on a heatproof surface, never leave burning incense unattended, and let ash cool before clearing it away.

Champa, Golden Nag and Indian incense tradition

Champa incense is closely associated with Indian incense making, where sweet floral blends have long been used in temples, homes and meditation spaces. In contemporary practice, it is often chosen to mark the shift from ordinary activity into a more considered moment: lighting the cone, watching the smoke settle, and giving attention to the room. The backflow format is more modern than stick incense, but it keeps that same simple rhythm of scent, flame and pause.

Common questions

How long does a backflow cone burn?
Backflow cones typically burn for around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on airflow, placement and the burner used.
Why is the smoke falling instead of rising?
Backflow cones use a hollow channel. As the smoke cools, it becomes denser and sinks through the burner, creating the cascading effect.

Nice scent and even burn

These cones come in a nicely presented triangle box with foil lining, and they burn really evenly. Like most incense, they can also be used to lightly fragrance drawers and other enclosed spaces, if you're looking for other uses.

Pretty good

These incense cones are specifically for backflow burners. They come ten to a pack for under £5. And I have to say, I really like them. They last about 20 minutes, more or less, as they are quite chunky and well shaped. The scent is nag champa, as it says on the box, but this particular one is really nice, quite delicate, with a thin plume of smoke. It is ideal for meditation and yoga, and there's no synthetic burned comb smell, which is a relief! I would definitely buy these again.

Jumbo Golden Nag Back Flow Incense Cones - Heady Fragrance

A very heady fragrance for use in a burner, the smoke it emits makes the burner look like it's flowing with steam. Just what I needed for a back flow burner to get a better effect. All the cones are perfect in shape and the heady scent is really powerful.

Very nice scent, contrasting floral and earthy

This is a review of the 1, Red-Nag Champa fragrance. The cones arrived in an attractive, triangular box that when opened contained the cones in a sealed foil bag. There were ten cones in the box, that are slightly bigger than other similar incense cones. They are pyramidical in shape and each had a hole in the bottom for putting over an incense holder that has a short peg to locate the cones. None of the cones were broken during packing or transit. They lit well and burned evenly over a 20 to 25 minute period with a little more smoke than I was expecting. Nothing excessive but perhaps a little more than pricier incense cones. After being burnt I noticed quite a bit of condensation on the tile that I use under my burner which I have never experienced before. My burner is enclosed, with the fragrance/smoke escaping from holes in the burner cover. These points may indicate the use of petrochemicals in the production to aid burning but I'm by no means an expert on this and it may be that they are made to be burnt in the open. The fragrance was definitely floral but with a nice contrast of a spicier, or earthier smell, which was pleasant and gave a balanced aroma. Strong at first the fragrance lingered in the room for quite a while, and I could still detect it over a considerable time and still detect it faintly 24 hours after burning had finished. Neither the floral element or the earthy element of the fragrance diminished over time and the complimentary fragrances lasted equally.
