Buddha Statue in Vitarka Mudra — Hand Carved Wood Mint 30cm

• The teaching gesture gives the figure a thoughtful, attentive quality, suited to spaces made for reading, reflection or stillness.
• The mint finish feels gentle rather than bright, with an aged look that softens the carved lines.
• The seated form has a grounded presence, helped by the natural weight of the wood.
• Carved robe folds and facial details add depth, so the statue feels considered from close up as well as from across a room.
• It sits well as a single focal piece, especially where morning or side light can catch the painted surface.

This piece is made from suar wood, a richly grained timber often used for decorative carving in Indonesia. It is hand-carved, painted and sun-aged in Bali, giving the surface its softened vintage character. Because of that process, small differences in tone, carving and finish are part of the piece rather than flaws.

Keep it indoors, away from prolonged damp and strong direct heat. Dust with a soft dry cloth, and avoid soaking or harsh cleaning products, as painted wood can mark if treated too aggressively.

In Buddhist iconography, the teaching Buddha is associated with the sharing of insight after awakening. The gesture is often understood as a visual reference to teaching, discussion and the turning of the wheel of Dharma, making it a meaningful choice for a study, meditation space or calm corner of the home. This Balinese interpretation brings that theme into a decorative wooden form, where the posture, expression and surface finish carry the mood without needing extra ornament.
