Candle sand is wax broken into tiny granules, each one holding fragrance oil. You pour it into any heat-safe container, ceramic, glass, metal, and nestle a wick or tealight into the centre. As the sand around the flame melts, it releases the scent; the outer edges stay solid, so the vessel stays cool to the touch. It's a quieter, more adaptable format than a traditional candle, and it lets you change the shape or scent from one pour to the next.

Pour the sand into a shallow, heat-proof bowl or jar to a depth of at least two centimetres. Press a wick holder or a small tealight into the centre, leaving the wick tip just proud of the surface. Light it, and let the pool of melted wax form around the flame; extinguish by pushing the wick into the liquid wax with a metal spoon. Once the sand has cooled and solidified, you can lift it out in one piece, top up with fresh sand, and relight. Stand the vessel on a heat-proof plate, never leave it unattended, and keep it away from draughts and anything flammable.

Starlight Elixir takes its cue from Angel, Thierry Mugler's gourmand classic released in 1992, which broke with the fresh, light florals of the time and built a fragrance around the warmth of caramel, chocolate and vanilla, sharpened with red fruits and anchored by patchouli. This interpretation follows the same structure: the top is bright with fruit and honey, the heart is indulgent and sweet, and the base is darker and more grown-up, so the scent reads as comforting without tipping into purely dessert.

One resealable clear pouch containing 300 g of white scented wax sand. The pouch measures roughly the size of a paperback book when full, and the sand is fine enough to pour smoothly without clumping.
