About this product

The waterfall effect
  • The smoke falls instead of rising, creating a slow cascade through a backflow incense burner.
  • A hollow channel in the cone lets the cooled smoke travel down through the base.
  • The effect is most striking in still air, with the burner placed away from draughts.
  • Unlike stick incense, this is as much visual ritual as room fragrance.
  • It suits a quiet shelf, meditation corner, or evening table where you can pause and watch.
Nag Champa scent

Nag Champa is one of the classic incense fragrances, often chosen for its warm, temple-like character and lingering sweetness. Here, the fragrance is synthetic.

How to use it well

Use only with a dedicated backflow incense burner. Light the tip of the cone, allow it to catch, then gently blow out the flame so the cone smoulders.

Place the cone over the burner’s smoke hole, with the base aligned so the smoke can fall through. Keep it on a heat-safe surface, away from fabrics, open windows and strong air movement. Let the cone finish completely before clearing the ash.

Where backflow incense fits

Backflow incense is a modern incense format, loved for the small piece of theatre it brings to a room. Its effect comes from temperature and density: as the smoke cools, it becomes heavy enough to sink, then follows the channels of the burner like water over stone. Nag Champa itself has long been associated with devotional and meditative spaces in Indian incense culture, where scent marks a threshold between ordinary time and a more attentive moment.

Pack size and details

The box contains approximately 225 backflow incense cones, with a total weight of 500 g. Each cone measures 3 cm high and 1 cm across, and weighs around 2 g. Made in India.

Common questions

Can I use these in an ordinary incense holder?
No. These cones require a dedicated backflow burner to create the falling smoke effect.
Can standard incense cones create the same waterfall effect?
No. Standard solid cones do not have the hollow channel needed for the smoke to sink through the burner.
How long does one cone burn?
Backflow incense cones typically burn for around 10 to 20 minutes, depending on airflow and the burner design.

Light easily, burn well. A lot of cones for your money.

A lot of incense cones for my money. Light up easily and burn for about 10 minutes. Good strong scene, regular size cones with pleasant scent.

Great scent

This is my favourite scent when using incense, and I use a lot. The small boxes of cones are ideal for taking in a bag if you want to do a small ceremony away from home. I even put them in my travelling alter tin.

Beautiful scent, excellent value!

Wasn't sure about this item at first as it seemed to have a soapy smell when I opened the box, however, once lit, it gave off a very nice scent which lasted a long time. Burned very easily, and excellent value for money.

Delicious scent

I've used these for many years and can't fault them. The most gorgeous scent ever and great if you need to cover up a strong kitchen smell almost instantly as the scented smoke pours out of these at intense speed! I'm knocking a star off because of a minor niggle. One of my boxes had been opened and the little Bakelite stand which comes with these was removed. I didn't need it, I have plenty, but I don't like when my purchases have been messed with, hence 4 star review only from me. I will be buying more of these, however. Can't get enough of my Satya Nag Champa cones. Better even than the sticks.

The gold standard of incense

Satya Nag Champa is truly the gold standard of incense; I have yet to find a superior incense, even at much greater cost. The cones are excellent in terms of smoke production, fragrance oil content, ease of lighting and of course, value. If you currently use incense sticks, I highly recommend switching to cones, as without the wooden core of sticks, incense cones are capable of producing a much purer fragrance. Be sure to purchase a suitable burner, as the included stands get quite hot; I recommend this Cast Iron Lotus Shaped Incense Stick Holder. The cones can be found elsewhere for cheaper, but I highly recommend buying direct, as I can confirm they have been stored properly and are fresh.
