Puzzle Box, Sheesham Wood Love Lock

• The honey-brown wood has darker grain running through it, giving the surface a soft, natural variation.
• Incised hearts and curling lines catch the light without making the design feel busy.
• The puzzle element adds a pause before the reveal, turning a tiny gift into a small ritual.
• The dark central compartment is suited to something modest and meaningful, such as a ring, charm, folded note or keepsake.
• It feels decorative even when closed, with enough character to sit out rather than be tucked away.

The box is made from Saman wood, shown here with a warm polished tone and visible grain. Its construction follows the idea of Indian wooden puzzles, where the pieces must be moved in the right order before the centre can be opened. The decoration is part of the visual charm, while the mechanism gives it a little patience and play.

Use it for a small keepsake, a piece of jewellery, or a note you want to present with a sense of ceremony. Work the puzzle gently rather than forcing the moving parts, as wooden puzzle boxes rely on close-fitting sections.

Keep it dry and wipe with a soft cloth. As with most wooden objects, avoid leaving it in prolonged damp or strong direct heat, which can affect the fit of the pieces over time.

Puzzle boxes are loved because they slow the act of opening. This one belongs to the Bali Magic Boxes range and is made in Indonesia, while its mechanism echoes Indian wooden puzzle traditions: a sequence of movements, a little trial and error, then the pleasure of finding the hidden space. The love motif makes it especially suited to intimate gifts, but it remains a novelty box rather than a security box. Its charm is in the reveal, not in keeping determined hands out.
