About this product
A small ritual
- At dusk, set the three glass holders where they can be seen from outside, on the step, the sill and beside the door, and light a tealight in each.
- Fill the burner's dish with water, add a few drops of marigold oil, and light a tealight in its base.
- Keep every flame clear of garlands and curtains, and never leave them burning unattended. The 12 tealights keep all four lights going from Dhanteras on 6 November to the main night on 8 November.
What's inside
- Three tealight holders of recycled glass with real dried baby's breath sealed into them, 8 × 8 cm each.
- 12 vanilla-scented tealights in two boxes of six, each burning up to four hours, made in Poland.
- An oil burner of carved soapstone, 8 cm tall, with a flower cut into its coloured side, made in India.
- Banjara marigold fragrance oil, 10 ml, made in India: a fragrance oil for the burner, not an essential oil.
The pieces arrive together in one parcel. They are not gift-wrapped, and the three glass holders are packed with care. Let the glass and the stone cool before you move them.
The marigold of the Diwali garland came from the Americas. Kew's Plants of the World Online gives the native range of Tagetes erecta as Mexico and Guatemala, and Portuguese traders are thought to have carried it to India in the 16th century.
