Place one brick on the terracotta burner and light the edge with a match or lighter. Let it catch for a few seconds, then blow out any flame so the brick glows and begins to smoulder. It will release smoke for a few minutes, depending on ventilation and airflow. Always burn on a heat-proof surface, away from draughts and anything flammable, and never leave it unattended. Let the ash cool fully before discarding.
