Small Enamelled Box - Leo

• The lid reads like a small night sky: midnight blue, with a cream circle holding the lion and the twelve zodiac constellations around it.
• A scatter of gold dots rings the circle, so the design catches the light when the lid is angled towards a lamp or a window.
• The wood below is a warm, medium brown with visible grain, which sets off the navy rather than competing with it.
• A dark metal latch at the front gives the box a slightly vintage, travelling-trunk look.
• The box is compact and squarish, the kind that sits comfortably beside a lamp or tucks onto a shelf between books.

The body is wood, finished in a warm stain that lets the grain show through. The lid carries the enamelled decoration, which gives the zodiac motif its depth of colour against the darker ground. A dark metal hook-and-plate latch holds it closed. It is a small, decorative piece, best treated as a keepsake box rather than a hard-wearing storage chest.

Boxes like this tend to earn their place through small habits: a spot for the earrings you take off at night, a few favourite rings, a handful of crystals, a folded note or a lucky charm. Keep it somewhere you pass often, and it becomes part of the end-of-day routine. To care for it, wipe the lid gently with a dry or barely damp cloth and keep it away from standing water.

Leo is the lion of the zodiac, the fifth sign, traditionally associated with warmth, generosity and a love of being seen. Here the lion is drawn in fine linework, with a full mane and calm expression, rather than anything fierce. Zodiac imagery has been a way of marking birthdays and identity for centuries, and this box carries that tradition in a quiet, decorative form.

This suits anyone who enjoys celebrating their star sign, whether for a birthday, a new home or a small thank-you. It works equally well as a place for a piece of jewellery given alongside it, so the box becomes part of the present rather than just its wrapping.
