Small Enamelled Box - Scorpio

• The lid is deep navy with a cream circular medallion, so the scorpion and the twelve constellations stand out sharply in fine gold line.
• The gold dots around the wheel read like a night sky, a quiet touch that suits a bedside table or dressing table.
• Below the lid, the wood is a warm medium brown with visible grain, which keeps the dark enamelled top from feeling cold.
• A dark metal catch on the front holds the lid closed, and its aged finish sits well with the wood.
• It is a small, square box, easy to place on a shelf, a desk or a windowsill.

The body is wood, finished to show the grain, and the lid carries the enamelled zodiac design in navy, cream and gold. The contrast between the natural wood and the painted top is what gives the box its character. Wood varies from piece to piece, so the grain and tone on yours will differ slightly from the photo.

A box this size suits small, personal things: a ring or a pair of earrings taken off at night, a crystal or two, a few keepsakes, or a favourite charm. Many people keep one spot for these small belongings, and a box with a design that is clearly yours makes the habit feel a little more deliberate. The front catch lifts to open and presses shut again, so contents stay put when the box is moved.

Wipe the wood and the lid gently with a dry or barely damp cloth. Keep it away from standing water and from long, direct sun, which can dull painted surfaces and dry out wood over time.

Scorpio is the eighth sign of the Western zodiac, usually pictured as a scorpion. In astrology it is traditionally associated with intensity, depth and determination, and it is often described as the sign of private, thoughtful people. The wheel on the lid shows all twelve signs with their constellations, with Scorpio at the centre. It is a decorative nod to a tradition many people enjoy, not a prediction of anything.

For anyone born under Scorpio, or anyone who likes astrology and wants a small, useful object that reflects their sign, this is an easy present to give. It is personal without being fussy, and it keeps its use long after the occasion has passed.
