Stars Sign Mini Bowl & Incense Stick Holder - Scorpio

A small round bowl that quietly does two jobs: it holds a stick of incense upright in its centre, and it keeps the little things you take off at the end of the day. Rings, earrings, a favourite pendant. Deep midnight blue at the rim, a pale ring of constellations beneath, and a gold scorpion in the middle, with a single hole just beside it for the incense.

About this product

What you'll notice
  • The scorpion is drawn in fine gold line on a cream centre, and the twelve zodiac constellations circle it like a clock face, each picked out with gold dots and lines.
  • The dark blue dish is scattered with tiny gold dots, so it reads a little like a night sky when the light touches it.
  • A glossy lacquer covers the wood and the artwork, catching the light along the rim.
  • The shallow bowl keeps small treasures together on a bedside table, a shelf or a dressing table.
  • The hole in the centre of the scorpion takes a stick of incense and holds it upright.
Mango wood and a lacquered finish

The outer ring and sides are mango wood, and the grain runs in warm honey and darker brown streaks, so the wood tone varies a little from one bowl to the next. The lacquer gives the surface a smooth, glossy feel under the fingers. It is an everyday object with a bit of presence, not something to keep on a high shelf.

Using it

Stand an incense stick in the centre hole and let the ash fall onto the dish. Because the bowl is wood and lacquer, light the stick away from the bowl, let the flame settle to a steady glow, and only then set it upright. Burn incense in a ventilated room and never leave it unattended. Incense sticks typically burn for around thirty to sixty minutes, though it varies by stick. When you are not burning incense, wipe the bowl with a dry or barely damp cloth and use it as a catch-all.

The scorpion and its sign

In Western astrology, Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac, traditionally linked with depth, intensity and a private, watchful nature. Many people choose a bowl for their own sign; others pick one for a friend whose birthday falls in Scorpio season. As with all the stars-sign bowls in this series, the constellation ring is the same, and only the central figure changes with the sign.

What's included

One Scorpio mini bowl and incense stick holder. Incense and any jewellery shown in use are not included.

Common questions

Can I use it only as a jewellery dish?
Yes. The central hole is for incense, but the shallow bowl works well on its own for rings, earrings and other small pieces.
Does it only hold one incense stick?
There is one hole, so it holds one stick at a time.
Is it safe to leave ash in the bowl?
Let the ash cool completely first, then tip or wipe it away with a dry cloth so it does not build up on the lacquer.

They do burn for 30 odd minutes as described. I've bought some that burn down within minutes of lighting, so these are excellent. I would
